matthew ames

matthew ames... i don't even know where to begin and how to begin. truly, all i can say is that his designs have captured my heart. they have captured it and took me away somewhere in a mystical, dream-like desert. and matthew ames... is the oasis.

on a more serious note, he is definitely an inspiration. by looking at his clothes, one can feel light and free. it's a beautiful twist on vintage mixed with a touch of minimalistic modernity. definitely a favorite.

"I started imagining clothes the same way I started creating images: with a sense of curiosity and innocence driven by my no-background background. No school. No teachers. No telly. No formatting. No boundaries. I like the idea of a world that we could live and shape by ourselves only by observing. Each our own. My clothes have erupted from this world of mine. They are asexual aseasonal they come from no place no time no tradition yet they could be home anywhere anytime. They exude a sense of discreet chic, the essence of timeless style drawn on a monochromatic and graphical canvas. Palette of blacks touches of pure grays and intense dark blues. Sophisticated modern classics for anti-conformist individuals."

vaslav nijinsky was a russian ballet dancer/choreographer. he was born to polish parents in ukraine. born in 1890 and died in 1950, the ballet dancer remains immortalized by photographs and memory of his impressive performances.

and as for me, his ballet outfits from the 'oriental performances' are my biggest inspiration at the moment. the photos say it all.
